Increase Cylinder Installation Safety
20-Oct-2009
When a hydraulic cylinder is being installed on a mining machine it is normally necessary to extend or retract the cylinder to fit the mounting pins. Commonly this is done by connecting the cylinder lines to the machine, then the isolation is removed, and the machine powered up to operate the cylinder and move it into position.
The problem with this operation is that to remove the isolation and power up the machine to move the cylinder into position has inherit risk’s such as other undesired machine movements. On some sites to work on an un isolated machine requires several levels of approval or not allowed at all.
Custom Fluid Power was presented with this problem and developed a Pneumatically Operated, Hydraulic Intensifier type Power Unit. It is used during such installation or maintenance tasks eliminating the need to power up the machine. The cylinder is connected to the Pneumatic Intensifier and can then be safelyextended or retracted as required.
